The Paul McCartney Sweater Workroom

My Shane saw this picture of Paul McCartney YEARS ago and has been asking me to recreate it for him ever since. I finally pulled the trigger on it as a Christmas present this year and it turned out SO WELL!

As you can see, he loves it! I posted this picture on instagram and ton of you asked if I was going to be releasing the pattern. And a ton of you asked if I was going to be teaching a class!

I had a really hard time wrapping my head around how I could do either. I’ve spent the last 2+ years teaching sweater classes all about how all knitting patterns need to be completely rewritten for every body, so it didn’t make sense for me to write a typical pattern.

I also know how much knitting this sweater is! I used Kelbourne Woolens Camper, a fingering weight yarn, on US size 4 needles. And it’s bottom up. The first class would be great - plan on the sizing, look at your gauge, etc, but then what? A month long break so everyone could knit to the armpits?

So I did the thing I’ve been doing since I started embracing full sweater size customization as part of every sweater class I teach - I made a worksheet! And it’s a hell of a worksheet if I do say so myself! As usual, you’ll be using your gauge measurements and your body measurements to work out stitch counts through every aspect of the sweater so you can get the sweater you want.

But that still left me with the question of how to run a class when the first part of this is going to be a turtle race to the armpits?! That’s when I came up with the workroom idea.

Because this sweater is a LOT of knitting I wanted to make sure each knitter could work comfortably at their own pace without having to keep up with a ridged structure and aggressive pacing to make sure we covered every aspect of the sweater before the end of the class. With this workroom style you will be able to join the group check in sessions to see other knitter’s work and be part of the group live, and you’ll be able to sign up for one on one sessions with me when you need help or have specific questions. You’ll also have access to a private group forum where you’ll be able to check in with fellow knitters, share your progress, get your questions answered, and be inspired by everyone’s progress.

With your workroom registration you’ll get:

  • 3 months of content starting with a kick off group class on Tuesday April 4th and ending with a workroom wrap up party on Thursday, June 29th - both from 6:30-8pm CST. The workroom forum will close on July 4th.

  • 2 additional group check ins - Tuesday May 2nd and Thursday June 1st, both from 6:30-8pm CST

    • Group check ins will be recorded and shared with the group. These check ins will be available to stream until the workroom closes.
